#1 Turn partially sideways to the camera and place one foot in front of the other. Point your toe towards the camera and shift your weight to your back foot away from the camera.
#2 Always chin forward and down to minimize any appearance of a double chin.
#3 Hold your arms slightly away from your body to create space between your body & arms. This keeps upper arm from flattening out and appearing wider and gives more shape to the body.
#4 Pull shoulders back, lean forward with your chest and very gently suck your tummy in.
#5 Look away from the camera then break into a smile as you turn back towards it. Your smile will appear fresh and natural.
Some other useful tips:
- Cover body parts you are conscious of by holding an object in front of it, for instance hiding your tummy.
- An entire outfit of one color will make you look slimmer and elongate your figure. Nude colour shoes will make your legs appear longer with dresses & skirts where your legs are showing.
- Practice is your best friend. Behind closed doors go ahead and practice them. Don’t be afraid to practice facial expressions in front of the mirror too. The more you can build your own confidence, the more you will confidently face a camera and be happy with the results.
One final tip … one of the main reasons we don’t like to seeing our own photos is because we see ourselves back to front and it feels odd.
